On Thursday,we spent part of the day in downtown Preston and then at the temple. We picked up our tour guide,Peter and headed to the old town square. This is the same square that first missionaries in England would preach in.. It's also the same square that President Hinckley has told stories about getting off the train in Preston and walking to the square and preaching for the first time, getting discouraged and writing a letter to his father telling of his frustration. His father in return told him to forget about himself and do the work... Our tour guide was a great historian and new so much about the history of the town, what the old buildings were back in the day, had drawings of what the square used to like and the significant parts of town..We saw where Heber C Kimball and Willard Richards lived. He took us down to a park that had a few places that were dedicated to the LDS faith, and they were not too far from where the first baptism was performed in the Ribble River (I think that is the right spelling).
Preston was a very busy place, people everywhere, cars everywhere, and we were in our dresses and suits/ties walking aroudn the town following this man with a backpack talking about the history of the town.. I loved it..
One of the old prominent neighborhoods away from downtown Preston

One of parks that has some dedicatory stones to the early Mormons that lived in Preston. This rock structure was built back in the 1800's.

The steps of the square that the first missionaries used to preach from as well as President Hinkley. Ira was my model on the stepsl

Looking to downtown. These red brick buildings were built back in the 1800's.

The Ribble River where the first baptism were performed. Our Tour guide told us that this was the spot where they did them.
